I think the manual says I can't drive it until it
gets to operating temperature, is this true or
will it hurt the transmission

No. New cars have sensors that adjust fuel and air ratio levels during run time. 30 seconds and you can go. Keep your fluids changed according to maintenance schedule and you are fine.
