My 1997 gmc safari when cold, runs very choppy and rough. Once it warms up, after a few miles, it runs great. What could be the problem?

Possible temperature sending unit. This along with the 02 sensors send information to the ECM to properly adjust all the other sensors. You may want to have it scanned for codes.

replace the cap and rotor. New plugs & wires. The dist. cap if old will cause the engine to missfire during cranking & van will take forever to start. It will run very bad until it warms up, MAYBE. Replace car & rotor & it will run 100% better and start easier.
