While driving, light switch on dash gets extremely hot ( could melt or catch
fire hot) head lights shut down.

Have tried that. Only the head lights go off- not tail or running. Anything else we could check or try replacing?

New headlight switch? And is the plugin melted to the switch? if so best have someone look at it, possible wires touching, or my be a bad ground somewhere, and check, replace any relay related to the lights. I myself would check these things, sounds like there is a problem to be corrected. Ordinarily, replacing the light switch should have taken care of this. Doing some resistance checks of the circuits can help pin-point a problem.

Thank you. Will try replacing the switch again, and check relays. Appreciate your reply more than I can say as its a place to start. I'll tell you it was a scary ride over the windy road home the other night w my 94 yo mom in tow and lights shutting off unexpectedly. Could have been terrible.
