Safe to use salvaged Stow 'n Go seats?

Asked by GuruY8M15 Mar 22, 2018 at 03:03 PM about the 2015 Dodge Grand Caravan SE FWD

Question type: Car Customization

I'm looking to convert my Grand Caravan from bench seating to bucket seats
(Stow N Go), which looks like an easy conversion from what I've read.
However, it's difficult to get new seats where I live, and I have found
salvaged seats at a local yard.  How risky would it be to use these salvaged
seats, knowing that the van they were in was written off?  Even though the
seats function properly and don't appear to have any damage to them?

If they are not wet or have mold go for it, I would use a steamer to clean them with (not the old style carpet steamers you do not want to soak them) Something cheap like a handheld steam cleaner to kill germs ect.

My big concern is that I will be using these seats for my children. Do you think there's a risk of structural damage that will lead to safety problems? We will probably be getting new covers for them, so cleaning is not the issue (but thanks for the tip!).

Just look them over real good, if the van is damaged/wrecked. Try them out to make sure before buying. If they are from a van with bad engine or trans and no wrecks then that is the best option. If its wrecked then the glass is likely broken too letting the interior get damp causing mold to grow which I would stay away from. Mold makes people sick.

I do not think there will be structural damage you can not locate before buying.
