Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Hey Guys! I just bought an 01 Ford Escape with the 3.0 cd4e. I was driving
on a long sort of steep road for about 40 minutes and then the O/D light
started to blink. I stopped and started driving down the road and it suddenly
turned off. I noticed it happening only twice and both times I was driving for
about 30 minutes on a steep road. Could it be that the tranny is
overheating? Any help would be really appreciated.

A blinking light can mean an overheat condition. Scan for the OBDii trouble codes, I would bet a trans code will be one of them.
