2001 Ford Escape xlt

Wondering if anybody could help with the
issue? So the vehicle runs just fine. But when
locking & unlocking the door with the key from
the outside works. The key phob works the
lights blink & everything but when I click the
unlock button on the phob or the actual
button on the inside it makes a click sound
but doesn’t lock or unlock. It sounds
confusing but let’s just say when it locks or
unlocks it makes a click sound when I press it
on the key phob or the actual button on the
inside.
