Why will my 2001 Ford Escape go in reverse, but will not drive when put in drive?
I was told the transmission was going out. How is that it will go in reverse full throddle. Then when I put it in drive it doesnt take off at all. If i floor it to hit 5 on the rpm it will try and take off but still going no where.

Sounds not only like the transmission is going out, it has. Should have checked the fluid level before the damage.
Unless your emergency brake is on.
It could be something like a solenoid or could be something has broke inside the transmission. Youll have to get it looked at. Most places will probably tell you that you just need a transmission instead of taking things apart and diagnosing it which is time consuming and can be expensive just to see what is wrong. Check the fluid level and condition.
My 2001 Ford escape will drive in reverse but when I put it in drive it won't engage it just revs up r.p.m.s how do I know if I need a new transmission or maybe just need some internal work on it
