Is it not displaying your mileage? or Not working at all?
The display works, I just can't get the mileage to read out on it.
Electronic instrument clusters contain an odometer memory chip to record the vehicle mileage. Since the chip is relatively small and delicate, certain care must be exercised in handling the device during cluster or chip service.Prior to servicing the instrument cluster, utilize the "Self-Diagnostic Test" procedure provided in the service manual to determine whether the cluster or the memory chip is faulty. A code of 1, 2 or 3 during the first test and the word "Fail" displayed in the odometer area, indicates the cluster is defective. Replace the cluster, retaining the memory chip for installation in the replacement cluster so as to maintain the vehicle mileage. This electronic memory device contains the current accumulated vehicle mileage. Follow the procedure below to transfer the memory chip. A code of "4" and the word "Fail" displayed in the odometer area indicates a probable odometer memory chip failure. Order a replacement chip package and install!
I have a 2001 f150 4x4 5.4 auto 4r70w with odometer problems. I have watched videos and understand how to fix the intermittent and dimming of the odom but i have also had the number of miles jump by1000 miles. Just bought the truck and this is the 3rd problem to be fixed[after the intake and balljoints]. Have you heard of an odom reading jumping like this before? {from 197345 to198345} the truck is in WAY better condition than this mileage. A lot of pavement pounded by this previously 1 family 2 owner truck.
How do you initiate the Self-Diagnostic Test?
