neither the truck or fuel door will close – both within a day -

Asked by Randy Aug 29, 2016 at 07:42 PM about the 2015 Toyota Camry SE

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a Toyota Camry 2015 and suddenly neither the truck or fuel door will close – both within a day -possibly at the same time.  My wife took it to the dealer and they quoted $790 to repair – $226 for a trunk latch and $76 for 2 cables.  No warranty as it is Salvage title.

The funny thing is that as part of their estimate, they disassembled some parts and put it back together.  Then they told her that both the trunk and fuel door  are now “temporarily” working.

Also said we should open and close both carefully until we bring it back to get fixed.

My guess is there is a connection between that "Salvage" Title and the problems with this vehicle. Did the seller indicate where the damage was to this vehicle? I think the initial repair resulted in the Cables for the trunk and Gas door NOT being installed properly. Now....miraculously...they work. Interesting.

It sounds like the cables were dry and just not returning. I would just spray some WD-40 on your trunk mechanism as well as the inside of your gas door. Will most likely be fine and not give you any more trouble.
