Buy a vehicle history report. If the vehicle was ever declared a total loss by any insurance company a salvage title would have been issued. Then what can happen is someone buys the vehicle from the insurance company, repairs it, and a rebuilt title is issued once the vehicle passes an inspection. Different States handle this in different ways. There is also the possibility that the information is wrong and you'll need to dispute it with the company issuing the vehicle history report. We did get the Vehicle Report and it says the title was REBUILT in 2016..We are in TN and are awaiting the new title..Not sure what it will say ? As the current owner will it stipulate "REBUILT" ?

It should. A branded title (rebuilt, flood, lemon, etc.) will follow the vehicle the rest of its life. It is still possible to "wash" the title but it's not as easy as it used to be because of vehicle history reports and the fact that almost all State's DMV records are connected now. I think only 3 States do not share DMV records. You can also run your VIN through the NICB website to see if the vehicle was deemed a total loss. NICB has records from all 50 States and goes back to 1967. You might also have a legal case against the Dealer who sold you the vehicle. In most States a branded title must be disclosed to the buyer before they buy the vehicle. Most likely the vehicle was bought at auction by the Dealer who sold you the vehicle so they may not have had any knowledge of the branded title either. If the title was washed before the vehicle went to auction the selling Dealer wouldn't have known either. Keep us posted and I hope that helps! Jim
