We are looking at 2015 CR-V to buy, are there any problems with these cars that I should be aware of?

Asked by BenYounger Jan 07, 2015 at 06:53 PM about the 2015 Honda CR-V EX FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

We are looking at the 2WD  EX with the CVT transmission.  I'm not sure, but it may have throttle and steering by wire.  Are there any problems with these cars that I should know about before buying it?   We looked at the 2015 Subaru Forester and loved that car only to find out it has serious oil consumption problems.

Maybe this issue is solved now, but, take a look at the threads in this forum about 2005 CRVs with timing chain issues. It's worth knowing.

Thanks Markw1952. I am not too concerned about 10 year old ones. A lot can be changed in 10 years. Engine tech has come a long ways in the last 10years with variable valve timing, direct injection, etc. But I do appreciate your reply. With only one reply in two months, that in itself is a good sign.

Yes there is a HUGE issue of the car shaking when stopped at a light (in an idle state). It is so bad that Honda has put out an official video... but no fix on the 2015 CRV since they started selling them last summer VERY disappointing!

Well, Honda introduced VTEC in 1995, I had it on my 95 Accord, and I've got a friend with a 08 CRV and loves it. The timing chain issue is a separate problem. As for the shaking, sounds like you need to take that back to the dealership, especially if it's a brand new 2015. I've heard that Honda makes a pretty decent CVT, although, Subaru has gotten better reviews for their CVT transmission. Yes, some Forrester models especially with the manual transmission have had oil burning issues. I have a 2010 Outback and it's fine. Good luck.

vibration in many crv's--sometimes at stop light, some times in the 20-40 mph ranges. Be really careful before you buy.

Generally speaking, CVT transmissions are simpler, are better engineered and save more fuel than traditional automatic transmissions and manual transmissions. That's why you're seeing them populated in many new cars.

Yes, there have been problems with some 2015 Subaru Forester cars mainly with MANUAL TRANSMISSIONS. PLUS, THE MANUAL TRANSMISSION IN THE SUBARU IS NOT AS GOOD AS THE CVT. IT WILL COST YOU MORE IN FUEL AND OTHER MAINTENANCE ISSUES, LIKE A NEW CLUTCH AT 100,000 MILES OR SO. MY ADVICE IS TO STAY WITH AUTOMATICS AND ESPECIALLY CVT.

i owned an EX-L 2015 AWD, its a very nice car, the vibration issues is over exaggerated i think, you should test drive one, my car is very quiet. Best choice for me so far.
