Vehicle will start but not stay running

Asked by Micwhy64 Jun 13, 2024 at 12:07 AM about the 2001 Ford Expedition Eddie Bauer 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2001 ford expedition with the 5.4
liter motor. It will crank and start but within a
few seconds it dies. When I bought this
vehicle it needed a new ignition and key. I
had a locksmith install the ignition and
program the key. What could be the
problem. The fuel inertia switch seems to be
functioning properly. I dropped the tank &
pulled the fuel pump out and supplied
power to it and it worked fine.

Since the ignition lock cylinder and key was replaced it's probably the security system shutting down the engine because the locksmith didn't do the programming correctly. Have the vehicle towed to your local Ford Dealer and have it done right! Jim
