Question type: Maintenance & Repair

On first try to start vehicle each morning or evening
after sitting for 8+ hours, it try's to start...may run for a
second or two then stalls. (Every time on first try)
Restart successful immediately thereafter. Every time.
What happens randomly is the rpm's (on second start)
shoots up to 3-4k...sometimes and then levels out. No
Engine light on. No codes set. No drive ability issues.
No hesitations. After vehicle starts...it's all good. I have
noticed my fuel mileage has decreased by 2 mpg on
average. I drive the same route every day. No variations.
The vehicle currently has 9,200 miles. From factory the
coolant level was low. Added 1/2 gallon. Level is good
now.

Hi Scottie. I have a 2015 Ram sport 5.7 that dose this exact same thing. I have noticed that it only dose it when cool and very high humidity. Had it to the dealer and they found nothing. (Of course they couldn't replicate it) when it starts and doesn't stall it will run very rough before the rpm shoots up to 3-4K. And as yours no check engine light and no codes. And no drivability issues. Very interested to hear if yours has been resolved and if so what was found.

No Leonard. Not yet. But it hasn't been to a dealership since January. Kevjordan...with temps dropping, it's doing the same exact thing again this year. I'm taking it to another dealer this time to get another diagnosis. What part of the country are you in? What dealership did you buy it from?

Hi Scottie. I am in Calgary Alberta Canada. I have noticed that my truck will only exhibit this concern in the spring and in the fall. Doesn't really do it in the summer and won't do it after the temp drops below freezing. I purchased the truck last January and did not experience any concerns until March it was ok over the summer and then started acting up again this fall. The weather has now changed and I don't expect anything to show up until spring. Very frustrating to know that it has this issue and nothing can be done. The truck is miss firing at start up and straightens itself out within about 7-10 seconds and is fine. I have done some research and found that these trucks turn off the miss fire detection at cold start. Hence why there is no check engine light. I look forward to hear if yours gets rectified in the near future. Mine was just at the dealer for ten days and nothing was rectified. Unfourtunatly it did not act up during this visit.

Kevjordan It is very frustrating! My problem is worse this year then last. This year it absolutely will not start on initial try on any temp below 40. But like last year, second try is 100%. One thing that was suggested to me was to pump the gas pedal a little when the vehicle try's to stall. As if you had a carb. That works!! So much for remote start though. I feel strongly that it is a fuel pressure issue. I have spoken with a few guys at Branden Dodge on Broadway in LIttleton, CO. I was given a product campaign update to have installed (free of charge) It was released Dec 20th. (18-103-16 Rev. C) I had previously called 6 other dealerships to try and get a reference of how many vehicles are experiencing the same problem. ONLY Branden Dodge was aware of it. So...I will keep you informed. I have an appointment for Jan 14th. I've got my fingers and toes crossed. Scottie

I have the same bloody problem with my 12 ram, stalls after a cold start when I hit a few stop signs or throw it in reverse. Checked out every sensor, changed throttle body, o2 is good, torque converter and tranny good...and yet still craps out. Maybe there’s water in the fuel and it screws up one of the injectors till it warms up? I’m running out of ideas

I have the same problem with my 15 ram starts then shuts off for a couple of times then is fine was told it could be the battery cause of the charging codes so I replaced it n still the same problem so if anybody has found the problem please let it be noted cause this is aggravating
