engine won't turn over

Asked by Eric Mar 26, 2016 at 05:36 PM about the 1988 Chevrolet Monte Carlo LS RWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I was driving the car, when all of a sudden
engine cut off. Got the car towed home. I
changed ignition module, ignition coil,
distributor cap and rotor, spark plugs and
wires and still won't turn over. I have spark,
fuel, and battery. I was told to check the
timing by turning it manually and see if the
rotor lines up with #1 on distributor cap. It
does but my car doesn't have the timing
marker, I can see the mark on the harmonic
balancer. How do I know if the timing is on
or off?

First off, do you have spark out of the coil? If not I am suspecting the pick-up coil in the distributor. There are 2 wires in which one usually will break off.

Over read the spark thing, sorry. The car has ben running so the timing just doesn't move on its own. So you had the cap off and could see that the rotor turns? I'm surprised there is no timing marker. On some cars it can be easily over looked, If it is not there the car must have ben worked on at one point. I'm thinking you should check the fuel pressure. It should be around 9 to 13 lbs.
