64 Chevy ammeter flutters & lights flicker

Question type: Maintenance & Repair
My ammeter shows a charge but flutters and the interior and headlight
flicker with engine running. Also, when the engine is off and I turn on the
right turn signal, it works properly but the left on flashes very faintly (and
vice versa). I'm not sure these problems are related but I think a bad
ground may be the t.s. problem. I've replaced the voltage regulator and
checked & cleaned every ground I can find.

Probably should have the alternator checked, may not be keeping up, may be weak.
Right now I have the original radio. I've cleaned both ground straps from the engine to the body and the ground from the body to the frame. I just checked and the turn signal problem has gone away, but my amp Gage still flutters and the lights flicker with the engine running.
There could be a bad diode in the alternator, having a alternator shop look at the alternator can test all the components in the alternator. I myself would want to do this to know if there is a problem with the alternator, instead of taking the chance of just buying a new, rebuilt alternator to try. I thing the fields inside the alternator are fluctuating and not being controlled.
I think it was just dirty connections at the regulator, I took the wires out of the plug-in and cleaned them up with emery paper and that seemed to do it. Thanks to all for your help.
Yea that will do it also, glad you found it.
Would all this make the check ingine light come on but not relay a message in the message center
