2015 Sentra CVT shifting issue...
Asked by Stan Feb 11, 2017 at 02:42 PM about the 2015 Nissan Sentra S
Question type: Maintenance & Repair
My Sentra at around 80mph (usually up hill) starts shifting back and forth
abnormally between gears. The only thing that releases it is letting go of gas,
forcing to drop speed, which also forces a shift to higher gear. You don't feel a
jerk when it's jumping gears, but the RPM arrow jerks between.
25k miles. Low tranny fluid?? Any one else ever hear of this?

CVT transmissions are continuously variable and really don't shift gears. I would get it to a Nissan dealership and get it evaluated. It should still be under the power train warranty.
I have a similar problem with my 2002 Mazda. Although not at high speed. When starting out from a stop and then around 25 mph. I get a jerking forward motion, if I let off the gas it will drop down and level out. Did you find out what your problem was with the your car jerking? I am curious what is going on with my car. Thanks in advance. Kim
My 2015 Sentra SV started having this same problem 4-5 days ago. I carried it into the dealership - still under warranty (57,467 miles). They are trying to get to take a look at it today. Always happens starting between 75 - 80 MPH. I noticed it first when I had cruise control set to 78 MPH going up a small hill. It accelerated great up the hill to keep my speed, but once it started leveling out at the top of this hill, it started surging. Now it has gotten worse. I had it floored today and it would never go faster than 83 MPH - constant surging. I'll let you know what I find out ASAP.
CVT's are a huge problem yet car manufacturers continue to assault their customers with these POS. I suggest you get an extended warranty and sell the car before the warranty runs out.
KV4YI.. Any word on what it was?
I been telling people they need to addd a extended transmission cooler
So I have a Sentra 2015. @ 58,000 they had to do their computer upgrade (so they told me) 20,000 miles later it’s doing the same thing!!! Now it’s been sitting in the dealer for 5days & they are arguing w/the extended Warrenty guy & Nissan them selfs! Thee mechanic deemed it UNSAFE TO DRIVE!!!! So now what??? It’s a lease that’s up in September.. I was also told by diff mechanics the trans has to b scaned at every 20,000miles which they don’t tell u & that’s exactly where it is now & messing up again!!! Any suggestions?? Not to mention it’s my only car! & they have yet to give me a loner!!!!
Oh and my mileage is all freeway! & same thing at 80mpr it started to slip gears rpms would go up to 5 then down to 2 & wouldn’t let me accelerate! I get a smell b4 this happens does it on cruse control & even at low speeds now! But car has to b warmed up.. I got a new car to not have problems & that’s all I have! This came from the Nissan dealer also!
My 2015 had the same issue. Took it in to Nissan dealer under warranty a few times and eventually we were able to get the transmission replaced. The service manager told us she had seen several of this year that were having this problem. It fixed the issue but now a few months later we’re having where our car slips out of gear while driving and then won’t start. The service lady said it was a pin in the drive shaft and that they fixed it but it just happened again. Apparently not....I’m thinking it’s not the greatest year of Sentra.
Some days I am so thankful for the internet. I have two 2015’s (both under 50k) and I am experiencing these same issues with both. I originally thought it was the governor, but I could not imagine the governor being set at 85mph. Neither car had these issues when the mileage was lower. I will be taking them both to the dealership after reading this post about others having the same issues.
Sadly my 2015 Nissan Centra needed a new transmisión at 39,000, good thing it’s still Under warranty
I am having the same issue with my 2015 Nissan Sentra. However, I have had it to 2 dealerships and both tell me there is nothing they can do, because the check engine light is not on and it is not throwing a code. They said they can not duplicate the problem, therefore Nissan nor my extended warranty will fix the issue. Any ideas?
We are experiencing the same issue with my daughter’s 2016. Look like they stopped using that CVT in 2018. Dealership said they can’t replicate with their equipment so I told them to keep it and drive it. 3 days ago I received a postcard announcing a class action lawsuit for the CVT. You have to have had it replaced or recommended for replacement by Jan. 2020.

With this postcard does that allow u to take it into nissan and get it replaced or fixed.. I have 2015 sentra sv and it literally stopped accelerating on freeway after it was jerking and struggling to shift gears.
I also have a 2015 Nissan Sentra that purchased from the dealership( worked @ it at the time) that is experiencing the same slippage and "sluggishness" of the transmission. I recieved the postcard about the class action lawsuit. Have not looked into it but seeing how many people are having issues and learning they are no longer using the CVT I definitely will now. Perfect little commuter vehicle until this issue. Only issue I've had with it this far!
I bought a used 2015 Nissan Sentra SV last July with around 80,000 miles on it. It had a 3 month warranty and of course, the CVT transmission went a few days after the warranty had expired. I got the transmission replaced and purchased the Gold Warranty plan - 1 year part & labor unlimited mileage. Last week the car broke down again and believe it or not, it's the transmission. Thank goodness I purchased the warranty. I'm getting the car fixed and then I'm immediately getting rid of it!
I have 2015 Nissan Sentra sv.im having a same problem with my CVT and my car only have 2900 Thousand miles.but my question is my car is Rebuilt title . Does this affect my factory warranty..let me know thanks

Both my mother and I have 2015 Nissan Sentra, we are having the exact same issues it seems to be a reoccurring problem with all your needs on these. Does anyone else’s BBN light come on it looks like a traction control light but it’s not. The fuel cap is loose warning will come on occasionally then go off and the check engine light will come on. it’ll go back-and-forth depending on how much gas I have in my car and yes I check the fuel cap, it’s fine.

WOW!!! I empathize with ALL of you who own a 2015 Nissan Sentra. I purchased a pre-leased Nissan Sentra last year during the Spring of 2019, and I cannot believe the large population of people who own Nissan Sentras are experiencing these unpleasant and similar issues. Of course, I had to take my Sentra to be serviced just 2 months post the full warranty expired. Thank GOD, certain parts and the warranty for the transmission was still in effect! From my perspective, EVERYONE who own a 2015 Sentra should DEMAND a recall especially if the vehicle is 50,000-55,000 mileage and under. Nissan suppose to have a reputation where the manufacturing of their cars/ vehicles are designed to last. Well, Guess What? That reputation appears to be shifting. This is my 3rd Nissan, and unfortunately, I believe it will be my last Nissan. Learning how SO many people encountered this disappointment, it may be the very reason why I am going to unfortunately trade my 2015 Sentra next year ensuring the car will be in mint or very good condition before the trade off. Good luck everyone. Best regards to everyone who.
