1977 chevy scottsdale fuel filter goes empty after running 20 minutes

I have a 1977 chevy scottsdale. I bought the truck
a year ago and have problems with the filter
staying full. When the filter is full the truck runs
good for about 20- 30 minutes then the filter goes
completely  empty and the truck dies I'll leAve it
parked  for a day or 2 start her up and samenities
thing filter goes empty. What is the problem?

Maybe the tank isn't venting as it should, remove the gas cap and see if it affects the problem.
