1977 chevy v10

Asked by Sdragonl13 Mar 31, 2017 at 08:15 PM about the 1977 Chevrolet C/K 10 Custom Deluxe

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 1977 chevy c10 short wide pickup that I
just bought that sat for about 7 months. It cranks
up just fine and drove fine for the past week.
Engine still runs strong and has strong reverse.
Over the past couple days driving in a forward gear
has taken higher rpms gradually to accelerate until
today where it just won't accelerase at all buy
shifts into gear fine. I can lift the rear tires off the
ground and put it in any forward gear and the tires
will spin but very slowly and takes a bit to speed
up. I have yet to change fluids in it and figure it may
be that the transmission fluids/filter are gunked up
or something. I have checked the vacuum lines and
they are all good. Any information helps thank you.

Also the engine is a 350 and the transmission is an automatic and either a th350 or a 400 turbo trans

Dodge and Ford have made V10's, Chevy never did. I would change the fluid and filter and see how the transmission works.

I'm rather mechanic savvy when it comes to engines and know chevy never made v10 engines, but transmissions I never learned much about except how to swap them, change the u joints on drive shafts, and change the fluids and filter.

Update: I drained the transmission fluid and it came out a dark burgandy colorand changed the filter. I haven't it new fluids in it yet that will be done in a few days
