I have a 2016 Sorrento with the 2.0 liter turbo engine. The owner's manual recommends 5W30 oil, not 5W20. Oil was changed today with 5W20. Why isn't 5W20 recommended? Will I have problems?

You might use some oil but I would not worry. If your engine uses oil, top it off with 5w-30. Do you idle the car for a few minutes before shutting the engine down to cool off the turbo?

I would shorten the time to the next oil change to 3,000 miles.

Thank you for your quick response. This was the first oil change, and it was done by the dealer, who wasn't aware that 5W30 is the preferred oil. What concerned me is the fact that oil weights from 5W30 to 15W40 are listed in the owner's manual as acceptable, but 5W20 isn't listed at all for this engine. You think the only ramification might be that I could burn some oil? No damage or engine issues? Also, should I idle the engine before shutting down?

Yes, always idle the engine to cool the turbo down. If you don't you will ruin the turbo bearings. If the dealer put the wrong oil in the car then make them replace the oil for free. The filter can stay.

You'll be ok but you can have the dealer address it. In general (even for Turbo) 5w20/30/40 all depends on climate. 20 will take you down to -20F which would be needed in really cold winters. 30 goes down to 0. 40 would be needed in really hot climates (desert). So if you're in a warmer climate you'll want the 40 with the turbo, otherwise use 30. Also use fully synthetic (some dealers will do semi-synth).
