Repairing a dent on Mazda CX5
Someone bumped into my new CX5 while I was in the store. Naturally they left
no note and took off. There's a small dent and some paint has come off.
How can I address this without breaking the bank? Someone mentioned
getting some paint from the Mazda dealership so that the affected area
doesn't rust. Would love to hear some other thoughts on this.
Clearly you don't want it to rust but post a photo so we can see how bad it is.
Dents can be expensive especially when the paint is broken. Have you checked to see what your comprehensive insurance deductible is?
Look for a "hail damage" store...depending where you are, there are "Paintless Dent Repair" shops that pop up after any amount of hail...one of these guys might be able to help you out. Check for phone book for "Auto reconditions" or "auto detail" shops. If it is just a "dent" it can probably be removed nicely for a small amount of money. Unless the pain is broken or there is a crease -- then it takes an artist to get it out.
@IndySweeney, if you would read again the original post, it does say that the paint was broken. Paintless Dent Repair can not fix that other than straighten the dent out. This will need to go to a body shop for proper repair.
I don't think the owner of this car wants to do it right, just cheap.
Thats what I get for answering/writing while tired. Yup...if the paint is chipped or broken then it will need to be painted. Doing the job right is still cheap in the long run compared to a spreading of the cracks and chipping paint. The thing about repairs, you can do it right once...its more expensive and you'll cry once. Do it cheap (and incorrectly) and you'll cry again later.
That is why I park my vehicles about as far away from the store as I can get. Door dings and similar things really piss me off.

You're going to need a detail shop or a body shop to do that unless you've got the willingness to learn how to do paint repair and on your own vehicle. Check with your local Sherwin Williams Auto paint store, you'll find them in most metropolitan cities. The website is http://www.sherwin-automotive.com/swahome, they may have names of people who can do this. The good news is, small jobs like this aren't necessarily as expensive as you'd think.
