Why doesn't a light turn on when you open the door of a jeep renegade is there a way to fix this?

Check your dimmer switch setting. On some vehicles you have a setting that turns the door dome lights off and they won't come on when doors are opened. Might also check your owners manual. If all else fails this vehicle should still be under warranty. Take back to dealer.
if its not the door switch and you have power itcalls for bulb number C5W for rear dome light (models without retractable roof).
to the left of the steering wheel, there are the dials for the lights in the car. if it’s all the way up, they are on all the time. turned all the way down, it’s off. There’s a midway point between those where it turns on when doors are opened.
