Gas smell

Why does my gas tank have to vent
when it gets over 100 degrees?I hate
that smell and see the gas fumes
outside the tank.dealership says its
normal.

Yes, this is normal. All gasoline expands at high temp - to avoid the potential of a dangerous situation the cap will vent and there is the potential for a small amount of fume during venting. Double check that the cap is tightened and the gasket on the cap is not damaged. If the dealer is reporting that the cap/tank/venting are operating within normal I would not worry - one could have it double checked at a local shop that can inspect the fuel tank/system or a state emissions test as it would do a cap pressure test to ensure the cap is sealing properly. Other than that you might want an EV :)
