Transmission problem

I was driving to work two days ago stopped at a
stoplight car was running fine when the light
turned green and I stepped on the gas it revved up
really high and the car would not move I turn the
car off started back up and it will not move it will
not go into any gear but it does roll I check the gear
shift cable there's nothing wrong with it does
anyone know what happened to the transmission

make sure the fluid level is correct and use what it calls for , otherwise it's off to the tranny shop to see what they can do , might need replacement or rebuild . Then you have to figure if the car is worth it , is it rotted out under neath at suspension points ?

I have a 01 Ford Focus SE and I have no Reverse it only Drives straight?
