Can I blend difference oil weights?

Asked by Gary Sep 04, 2019 at 02:37 PM about the 2016 BMW X3 xDrive28i AWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Can I blend a 0-40 weight oil with a 0-20 weight? To get a 0-30?
I live in a hot climate. Cold starting temp is never under 50 deg's.
And hights get into the 100 often. Manufacture calls for 0-20. The vehicle is 3
years old with 30K miles on it.

You could but when you change the oil pick one weight and stick with it. Use BMW approved oils!
