I have a 2016 Escape, and I want to turn the interior lights out when the hatch is open.

I go camping with this car. I would like to have the hatch open, to use as a storage area without having to have the lights on all the time. When I sleep in the car, I'd rather not wait for 15 minutes for the lights to go out every time I get out of the car!. Anybody know how to turn the lights off on demand?

Read your owners manual, you may be able to turn them off at the dome light. Leaving the hatch open will leave the lights on. You could remove the bulb.
Ah, yes. Already did that...the manual has no answer. These are like mood lights..several locations where they are on. The dealer says they will turn out in 15 minutes as an energy saving feature. If I close the hatch they will turn out right away. Was so used to camping using an Odyssey van where there was a switch for all the interior lights.
I also participate in an Astronomy forum and exterior/ interior lights are a sore subject there. Too many cars have lights that can't be disabled. Maybe tape over the lights would work?
