Ground Wire Mystery?

I just bought a 2001 Mustang that needs a little love.
Under the driver's side dash is what is clearly a ground
that's been cut but I don't know what the ground is for and
can't seem to find the right keywords through google. Any
direction is appreciated!

It might have been used for an aftermarket stereo at some point.
