Tire size recalibration for speedometer.

Asked by Guru99KW2P Oct 13, 2020 at 04:02 PM about the 2016 Chevrolet Colorado LT Crew Cab 4WD

Question type: General

Replaced R255/65 tires with R255/70. Can my
2016 Chevy Colorado be recalibrated to the
new sized tires so the Speedometer is
correct?

I set the cruise control at 70 and a good
handheld gps showed 73 mph.

supposedly yes - either a dealer or reputable shop with a dyno and speedo calibration should be able to do it (not free) ... on the other hand, reading 3 mph too slow (3/73 is about 4%) is within manufacturer tolerances and the mileage on odometer will be lower than actual mileage- I had a 97 Honda Civic once that read 9% too fast, that was opposite and caused higher mileage shown than being driven (and also caused warranty to run out quicker) - they settled with many but it was found that the law allowed manufacturers at that time a speedo error tolerance of over 9%...
