Keep Stop/Start

Asked by GracyGirl Jul 03, 2019 at 09:54 AM about the 2016 Jeep Cherokee Latitude 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I just had my start/stop repaired at the dealership-
they replaced some battery sensor to the time of
about $350. Drove it off the lot and it still doesn't
work. When I went back to ask they told me to
give it a week while it “reprogram” itself.
Apparently once it learns my driving habits the
stop/start will begin to work again. This sounds
like bogus to me- has anyone heard of this???

Recently, my start/stop in my 2018 Cherokee stopped working. I would receive a message that the battery was charging. Eventually, the jeep wouldn't start unless I jumped started it. The dealership tested the battery and said it needed replacing. Once i drove off the lot, I received the same message and it did not work. Three hour later, I drove the jeep and it worked and the message is no longer there. I paid $268 for the battery install.

Will cause you problems: intermittently dash lights flash then car shuts off. Watch out! It is probably the Intelligent Battery Sensor. Jeep fails to admit a problem, but it's going to kill someone sometime.

I had this fixed in my 2015 Jeep Cherokee two times already. Now apparently it is beyond the 36 month basic warranty and they want to charge me over $300 to fix it. Said it was the sensor reporting a low charge even though the battery was fully charged. Where is that sensor, and can it be replaced independently? Or is it part of the battery?
