2016 Ford Focus transmission repair:

Asked by Shouldhavegottoyota Oct 11, 2019 at 02:19 PM about the 2016 Ford Focus S

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

A Ford dealership in MN is quoting me $2800 to
replace the clutch/seal and 1 or both actuators in
my transmission. Is this reasonable? They said
they are giving me the highest quote possible
since they havent opened up the transmission yet
to see if both actuators need replacing.

Other info: 47,000 miles, not covered under
warranty because the car is prior salvage with hail
damage. I paid 6k in total for the car, i really am
not sure what to do. Any suggestions?

A new clutch should not be that much. Maybe a grand. Go to an independent shop instead of the stealership. Not sure what you mean about actuators.

What transmission do you have? If you have the dual clutch semi automatic it could be pricey to fix.

The transmission is a dual-clutch, the transmission shop i called said they were not equipped to work on it. They said the “actuators” need replacement. I’m not sure what they mean either. I bought the vehicle private sale, i brought it to the dealership to fix because it is a newer model and required programs only licenses dealers have access to, to run diagnostics. I shouldnt have bought a salvage title on a car with a reputation for bad transmissions

With the mileage all u usually need is a clutch witch is less than $400. And it’s 8hrs labor. Seems like a lot. The whole trans form the dealer new is about 5k plus the labor 8hrs to put it in. It takes about 4hrs of actual time to do.
