2016 VW Jetta SEL consuming oil 1 qt every 3 weeks

Asked by Jake_Lush Aug 01, 2024 at 02:30 PM about the 2016 Volkswagen Jetta 1.8T SEL FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Has anyone had a similar issue and could offer advice? I have a 2016 Jetta
SEL with 84K miles. Since 2022, the car has been consuming oil. At around
75K, I replaced the timing chain gasket but this didn't fix the problem. Around
78K, my check engine and EPC came on and the car went into limp mode.
After replacing bad spark plugs, it was working but still consuming oil. At 82K
miles, I took it back to the dealership and the time chain gasket was blown
again. I fixed an oil separator. The car continue to consume oil and I have
been adding 1 quart every 3 weeks. I have had all regular services
performed by the dealership and drove very little during the pandemic. I am
convinced I bought a lemon. Has anyone else had this experience?

If it’s blowing gaskets then that is a sign of an engine will high ring blow by, most likely needs an overhaul or another engine.

You've had it 8 years and now it's a lemon . Ine problem is bring it to the dealer , what type oil are you using ?

How many miles do you drive a week ? A quart of oil in 1000 miles isn't excessive.

I use 10w-30 full synthetic. I keep a log every time I add oil. I go about 500 miles in the 3 week period before I need to add another quart. The need to add a quart every 3 weeks has been consistent since I've been keeping the log. I don't think it's normal that an engine would begin to fail this soon. For that reason, I am calling it a lemon.
