high oil consumption

hello would like to know what causes high oil consumption on a 1600 vw beetle 1973 year model i drive 3 liters of oil in about 9 days

If it's not leaking out, you are burning it- and I would imagine it would make a lot of smoke- either way, don't run that bad boy low on oil because the air cooled engine USES that oil for cooling- sounds like VW specialist time to me-

You should be using 20w-50 oil If it's burning it, you will see smoke from.the tail pipes.
