Car won’t go up hill faster than 15mph

Asked by Jess Nov 16, 2017 at 11:11 PM about the 2001 Dodge Neon Highline SE Sedan FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I was driving my car and when I was going up a hill
my car wouldn’t go faster than 15mph. I pushed the
peddle to the floor and it made this loud humming
noise but wouldn’t move. When I went to turn it off
the road the check engine light came on. Keep in
mind on flat surfaces the car does normal speed.
Got 2 codes from the car P 1684 & P0171. I’m open
to any suggestions, thanks

Update: I also added more transmission fluid to it a few weeks prior to this happening, since it was low. Did have some issues as well when I bought the car, previous owner put diesel in the tank but my mechanic cleaned and fixed that issue (hopefully).
