Asked by Wen9999 Jul 24, 2011 at 10:34 PM about the 2004 Honda Accord LX

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have this Honda Accord 2004 LX. Sometimes the battery just dies by itself and sometimes the radio stops working suddenly and come back after several days. I had it checked by a Honda service person and was told the battery is find and there is nothing wrong with the radio either, believe it or not. I tend to believe these two symptoms are linked together to something common. Any help is appreciated.

actually found this thread online and it says this problem is covered life time by Honda. http://www.justanswer.com/honda/1feyi-own-2004-honda-accord-radio-randomly-shuts-off.html Anybody know if this is true? I went to the dealer to have the car checked up but they didn't say anything about coverage. thanks.

My Camry was doing the same. Just try cleaning the contacts of the battery and see what happens.

Thanks. Will do that. Did your radio shut off and turn on by itself also?

Hmmm, nope. didn't do that. I am probably wrong then, instead try looking for loose contacts and solder joints.

Dirty ground and power wires from alternator to battery and battery to fuse box clean all.

i just re-read this. when i bought my 2007 accord used. they had to jump it before i could test drive it. so when it came time to negotiate i asked them to test the battery and that i wanted it replaced. they tested it and told me it was fine. i bought the car labor day weekend. i had a situations where the car wouldn't start and once it shut off on me while i was driving on the highway!! (scary!) when i moved to NH and got it inspected here, the mechanics that did the inspection do a general check of everything. during the inspection the battery decided to cut out. so they tested it and told me that battery was junk and that i should get it replaced. my first thought after that i was told that was, the honda guys lied to me and they probably didnt even test my battery. sorry for the long story, but maybe go to autozone and get a second opinion on your battery

My issue is that the radio turns off and on all the time. Just out of the blue and it has this loud pop sound. Its been making my battery die lately. Has anyone had this problem?

renegg and Tailor07 - I've seen both of these issues. In addition I also have the radio/console backlight issue. All winter I've had the fuse linked to the radio out and the battery was fine. I also hooked up a multimeter to the battery and with the fuse plugged in the car was taking a larger than normal draw from the battery while turned off. Seems to be something electrical. Either of you have any luck? I thought about trying the backlight fix and seeing if that also worked for the radio issues both of you mentioned. All of the car issues started roughly around the same time.

Having the same issue with my 2005 Honda Accord lately. First, I had issues with the starter but everytime I could wait a minute or so and start the car just fine. And now just recently I'll be driving along and have the loud pop and the audio goes out, doesn't matter if it's CD or Radio, etc. I'll turn it off and a minute or so later I'll turn it back on and the sound is back...

OK. I'm back again... radio stopped working for days... before like I said I could turn it off for a couple minutes, turn it back on and everything is fine. Went out for days... then... came back on for a good couple hours without messing up THEN BOM)*fh28fH@F*)@ crazy fckin static noises scared the living shit out of me came out the radio. Couldn't have turned it off any quicker. Was scared to turn it back on but did the next day and bam same thing happens... no way I'm turning it back on again til I get it fixed. :( I also called a local Honda Dealership and explained the issue also told them how I searched online and found that this problem has universal coverage. Lady said she's never heard of such a thing and that I should bring it in. :/ ;\

Last night I drove into work for an overnight in a 2007 chevy impala. The radio was off. No lights or responce. No audible chime to lock the door. I get off work in the morning and the car is dead. This has happened now 2 times. No answer yet as to why.

I think that maybe something the alternator over charge or put wrong battery. Later, time by time. It damages all the electrical system. But it is too late. That's why with electrical issues, we need to see mechanic, not to change at home

My car died a while back - everything was flashing, couldnt turn the key, nothing. Anyway, after getting it jumped, of course i had to put in the code for my radio. I have an 07 accord. Anyway, my radio, after putting in the code will shut off and reset at exactly 3 minutes. then i have to put the code in again. Anyone know what to do about this?

Was this ever solved? My 2005 Honda Accord is suffering from almost the exact same symptoms. Thanks in advance!

I'm having similar/same problem with Accord 2004. I'll be driving along with radio on, then suddenly I hear a loud abrupt "Pop"! that is so loud it scares the living daylites out of me, then the radio goes dead. I push the button to off and leave it off for awhile then try it again and it's okay, for a while. I thought the heat might be the culprit, but it's still doing it with the seasonal cool down, though not as loud of a 'pop' sound. From reading these posts, it seems to me like Honda has an awfully wide affecting defect in this equipment. Fuses going bad...? Radio computer chips burning up???

bubu16, did you ever find out how to fix this issue? my son is experiencing this now. When I called Honda they told me it could be a lose battery cable.... they didn't know for sure without looking at it. Please let me know if you found what the problem was or is.

I have a 2006 Honda Accord LX 2.4L 4cyl. My radio doesn't always work. A lot of times it only works for a few minutes while I'm driving and then just shuts off all of the sudden. For several weeks I would notice that after I turned off my car and locked it the radio would start playing on its own. At night from inside my house I could tell that the radio was on because the blue screen would light up. So I'm sure that was draining my battery all night and day when i wasn't using my car. The only quick and easy fix for me was to remove the radio fuse. and I had to buy a new battery:/ The fuse box with the radio fuse is located inside the car, near your left leg when you are sitting in the driver seat, right next to the hood release. (Different cars might have it located somewhere else) When you remove the fuse box plastic cover, you can find where the radio fuse is located. Mine was on the bottom row, 5 spaces from the left. It was a Red 10 fuse. Be careful not to remove the wrong one. I saved my fuse for later when I find out how to fix it better.

Purchase 2007 Honda, and car stop, told by Honda needed a new battery, replace battery and then radio was not working, told by Honda needed speakers, got new speaker. Then every week battery would be dead and would have to get a junk, radio would play and then stop. Took to Honda stayed for hours until they figured out the problem that the radio was causing the battery to not work. Had to completely disconnect the stereo system from the battery in order not to have the problem again . Founded out neighbor had the same problem with her Honda . Should have been a recall but the Honda mechanic act like they don’t know anything about the problem . I think Honda sold some lemons.

I have an 04 Honda and the radio does the same thing. Took it to autozone, nothing blown and a fine battery. The original radio in the car is just dead and causing the battery to drain. So I had to get a new radio.. everything works fine now
