spark plug wire set ford f250 1989 xlt lariat

I purchased a spark plug set from napa for my ford f250 1989 xlt lariat,it
came with an extra wire,now the old coil wire i took off was a regular looking
plug wire,it didnt have the little metal cover that protrudes,and the set i
bought had that same wire so i put it on and now im left with an extra wire
that does have the standard coil wire protrusion....why would the give me
that extra wire?have i done the right thing?
