03 Honda CIvic D17A2

Asked by Austin Feb 04, 2020 at 12:47 PM about the 2003 Honda Civic Coupe EX

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a d17 that a head went bad on. I changed the whole head, gaskets,
and timed it from doing tdc on cyl. 1 and adjusting camshaft to up. When
revved it makes a knock but idling it sounds fine and temp is normal. Left with
no clue what to do, any help pls???

I would check timing . I’m not a mechanic but I’ve replaced the head on two civics , 2003 ex . And finally swapped out the whole engine . Did you install a new belt and tensioner ? You might be off tdc by one tooth and it can cause problems . We’re you tdc on the compression stroke ? Check engine light on ?
