my honda odyssey will not roll over it tries to start then stops and back fires

my starter went bad after trying to start it so long so we got the starter and i thought it was the crank position sensor

Check for spark. Check for fuel. THEN start looking at sensors.

did you actually ruin the starter? or did you just buy a new one because thats what you thought was wrong? like mike said, check for spark
