2001 taurus dash lights go out when the headlight switch is set to automatic.. If I switch to manual they stay on.. any insights... I dont want to buy a switch and find out that the switch wasn't the problem

...this problem occurs day or night?...if they auto-shut off...this is incorrect, unless you do not have the key in the ignition...now if it auto-on then that's okay...but auto-off is totally unacceptable~

not convinced there IS a problem here, have you come out to find the lights are still on? that's a problem....if the key ain't in the ignition.

your day sensor is not working, does your instrument panel dim at night or stay full-intensity always? we should begin looking for this "eye" what senses daylight if this is the case...will investigate if necessary~
