83 Monte carlo v6 to V8?

Since a V8 was an optional engine for your car, look for a donor Monte Carlo with the engine you want.
try a 350, should fit right in.you could also go to a nice 327 which would also fit.you may have to change your gearing and trans. Any chev motor up to & including the big blocks would do the job but u may have to change a few things to match the extra power (maybe motor mounts ,tranny and rear end) u can get most o this stuff from any wrecking yard. I found that the chev motors are the best and easiest to work on and get at .I've done 3 motor swaps over my car days and they all turned out fine.

I’m also looking to do an engine swap i have a 83 V6 and looking to put a 350 V8 Big block ....
a 350 would be the best choice that i would make.or a 327 300 hp. u could then add a set of aluminum heads, and good aluminum intake and a 600/ 700 edlebrock carb. u will have all the power u need. Then go with a Th 200R of Th 350 or even TH 700. They are all good trans for what your going to do. also go with a 3,73 rear end these all worked fine when i did 2 build ups.if u plan to race it then ask a engine builder which combo would be the best.
i dont think there is a 350 big block. big blocks are considered o be the 396,400,427 and bigger.like the 406,572 etc.look up what GM classifies the big as., then you'llknow what to go with. if u go too big, then u better start to use extra bracing for the frame of u will just twist the body right off.
