My brake pedal has no resistance and I found that the brake fluid was nearly empty. Does adding new fluid do anything or do I have to go to the mechanic to get it flushed?

I think your brake system will need to be bled. Go ahead and add fluid and see if it helps.

Check for leaks, if no leaks, like FOR explained the system needs bled, I've had a few Hondas that had severely corroded brake lines that leak and they are ran under a slotted cover that can hold snow which has salt and corrodes the lines, the brake calipers could be leaking as well.
