transmission fluid level for 2004 ford ranger 4x4

if fluid is barely showing on dipstick how much is needed to raise to normal

There should be "full" marks on the dip stick. If you are showing low, add about an ounce at a time until it reaches the full mark. When it starts to show about half way between low and full, start the car and sequence the trans between reverse and forward gears. Then shut the car off and fill the remainder of the way. Double check after finished.

Probably a half a quart is what I'd start with, provided that you are following instructions as to how to check the fluid level. Usually that info is printed on the dipstick.
