Is a California Catalytic Converter different from a 49 state model?

Asked by Bob Jun 19, 2017 at 02:54 PM about the 2000 Honda Insight 2 Dr STD Hatchback

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Check engine light throws code saying catalytic converter is problem.  Car originally sold in California.  Can't find anyone with a California cat listing.

search Rockauto.com for a cat that is cali compatible

Call a dealer, ask them for the part # for the cali compliant cat, take the part number and search it on google to see if anyone carries it for less. That's the only advice I got left. Sorry mate.

If you have a 50 state car you need to install the correct Kalifornia fruits and nuts approved converter to be legal. I think they are made of old recycled Birkenstocks and tofu ;)
