Can a VW Jeta 2013 timing chain jump a tooth and cause a engin light to come
on. The car has 167000Km on the clock. This is wat was was told after a
diagnostic test was done

They are probably telling the truth this time and I would get it serviced but not at a dealership. They charge way too much. When a timing belt jumps a cog or two it is warning the belt may jump more cogs or just plain break and destroy the engine by allowing valves to be hit by pistons...ouch! I believe this is an "interference engine" and moving parts will collide and break. Jumping a cog will set a code and a check engine light because it can't run right with valves "being out of time". Lack of power. Drive it gently until it's fixed.
