They are probably telling the truth this time and I would get it serviced but not at a dealership. They charge way too much. When a timing belt jumps a cog or two it is warning the belt may jump more cogs or just plain break and destroy the engine by allowing valves to be hit by pistons...ouch! I believe this is an "interference engine" and moving parts will collide and break. Jumping a cog will set a code and a check engine light because it can't run right with valves "being out of time". Lack of power. Drive it gently until it's fixed.

The oil light flashed red and beeped while driving. Oil level is good, oil is new, engine sounds good. Next time I drove it light does not come on at all. Could this just be a bad sensor?

I don't want to wreck the engine. It's a '12 Jetta SE. The red "low oil pressure light" came on, the warning tone sounded, and then the light went off again. It's about 13 miles to the dealer.
