1999 Honda Accord gear shift is sticking, having to wait to put car in gear. How can this be fixed?

There's a keyway near your automatic transmission , try inserting your ignition key and see if you can get the gear shift to unlock...I assume that you have an automatic..
Or, have the car towed to your mechanic...
The car has been started. Gear shift will stick. Eventually I can put car into gear. Is this just beginning of a costly Problem?
Could be a linkage problem... I would advise that you have it checked out by your independent mechanic.....nip this in the bud...if you can.. A new transmission would be a show stopper... costing way more than your car is worth.. transmission overhaul is $3,000 or more... I had a 1995 Honda Accord EX with just about 150,000 miles and had no problems, but, by the year 2000, Honda very unwisely farmed out their transmissions to an outside contractor who did a horrible job with quality control and there were many transmission failures from 2000 to 2007.... very poor decision.. stay away from any Honda during this period.. can't say if your particular is caught up in this, but, it's a possibility.. Again, the mid 90s Honda Accord cars were a different breed and they were bullet proof... Once you have transmission trouble, if you don't fix it , it will destroy the engine.. think of it this way, how far do you think you would go, if we ties a 100 pound weight to your body... A malfunctioning transmission is a real drag on the engine and it has to work much harder...
