How to get more power from a F20B SOHC Motor?

Exhaust including headers, and computer would be best. And unless you have all the goods, a engine swap would be a bit excessive and the transmission should be fine. If you must swap, make sure you get it done right, and you'll be very happy.

why not save the money and get a better car? dont get me wrong ... i have a 98 accord too but is it really worth it doing all those mods? you could possibly get a better car with that money ... but if you insist then go for h22 it has more torque

No man..swap the motor. An H22a would be perfect for your vehicle. You would get a low mileage engine and transmission along with being a sleeper. Gut the interior of the accord, slap in the h22, tune it, put a gear in it, slam it on some coilovers with some dank tires and it would be a fun driving machine. An H22 accord would beat an F20 SOHC accord hands down. The possibilities are limitless.

As was said above, the H22a is a great engine for a bit of street racing... Good torque (for a 4 cylinder) and high end power make it a good choice. About the tranny, if is possible, which i think it is, a manual will be better, they get better gas mileage(usually) and you get a lot more feel from the engine. Aside from power, lightweight rims with slightly bigger diameter will offer more feel and good tire will offer more grip. Plus a CF* hood will drop weight and if you go one step more you could take out spare tire, and back seats. For every 10Lb you lose, you get 1HP, plus the immeasureable benefits like MPG, handling and tire wear will also decrease with a lightweight car. Not really worth the time or money. Granted some hondas can be made fast, theres a lot of money involved. In this case its better to keep your 40 mpg. The car you got now is a 4 door thats one prob against it, fwd and a motor not really fit for the fast shit. My opinion, forget about it or get another car

I would get the newer 99-01 prelude SH model engine, it is the same H22 but the cam shaft give you extra HP.

Don't waste your money and do a motor swap on that car. You will never see the money you put into it again and you will sell it for less than what you could now. Buy a faster car.

With A/C on, the most you would lose is probably about 8hp. Now i'm not entirely sure, because efficiency w/ and w/o A/C changes from car to car. A small engine like yours could lose more than somethink like a truck. Another thing, is mpg. Below 40mph, you will gain about 1-2mpg if you have the A/C off, but above 40 w/ the windows down, all efficiency made up for not having the A/C on, is lost to wind resistance. Hope this helps

well first of all hondas are the easiest cars to work on...and have the cheapest parts available. now for your question. the f20b is a beast of a motor mated to a strait drive, but not without work. the biggest thing for power upgrades for you is how much your willing to spend. motor swap is a possibility but not a cheap one. if you want to stay naturally aspirated then you need to build the motor. the head first. get a good port and polish job and get a bigger camshaft. if you want more get higher compression pistons but that also comes with a good block refinishing. like the other guy said the exhaust is good get good headers the longer the tubes are the better, as well as opening up the rest of your exhaust. if you have a little more money a single cam turbo setup is good. with the stock block and head you can push no more than 10lbs safely. these motors are good for turbos as long as you dont over boost it. if you want to do a motor swap then yes a h22 is the best bet for this car. which car you take it from is up to you but a fully built h22 with a good tune and precise selection of camshaft can put you anywhere from 230-260whp depending on the tune and rebuild. if you have any questions about any of this shoot me a message and ill help you out. ive been working on hondas for years i feel like i have a handle on them.

it depends on what you get where you get it and how much an engine shop charges for a build. you can get a JDM H22 for about 2000 give or take. then a good build will be a couple more thous. depending on the shop. just a stock h22 will get you about 160, add intake headers bigger injectors stage 2ish clutch kit you can make sure you get it to the ground. building motors is expensive but its worth it if you want to keep your car. if i were you i would do it in stages first get the swap, save a lil more. get a big cam first, then get a port and polish on your head AND intake manifold to get more air into the engine more efficiently. this will be good with the injectors because it will keep you from running too lean or rich. after that you should be at about 200whp give or take. now is where you have some decisions. you can move to turbo, finish a build, supercharge, its really up to you. turbo is the most efficient as far as power gain but will take away from gas mileage. its all up to you. find a local shop who are good with hondas and go talk to them they will give you allll the info you need to make your decision.

Chad is the only one that has given you sound advise thus far. That Accord is a tank and it will be difficult to make it "quick." The SOHC engine is there for a reason, it gives you bottom end torque. Your best and least expensive route would be to leave it as is and add a supercharger. That car would not work well with a turbo because of the weight and the down side of turbos in a street application. I'd check with Jackson Racing and add a supercharger. You will keep the bottom end that the car needs and you'll have better throttle response and overall power. You can also add a lightened flywheel. That car will never be a genuine badass because of the weight. If you want to go fast, you'll have to lose the Accord as a platform or prepare to invest a TON OF MONEY and strip a LOT OF WEIGHT.

well lemme tell u abt those accords i have one but how come u have a f20b is it an american model coz i think all the GCC accords have come with f23non vtec in this model.. i got mine swap with f20b DOHC VTEC MT trust me best swap i ever had on my accord !!
