04 VW Passage 1.8T stalling while driving up hill

Asked by chelsea May 24, 2018 at 08:55 PM about the 2004 Volkswagen Passat GLS 1.8T

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 04 Passat. Let me start by telling you
when I bought it the guy had told me that it needed
a TCM (transmission control module) because the
car runs great until you need to use reverse and
then as soon as you put it back in drive it turns to
limp mode.  It gets stuck in a high gear and doesn't
change.  We have to shut the car off and turn it
back on and go back to drive to continue driving
normal.  I bought the part changed it out.  Cleared
the code and my problems still there.  Didn't fix it.
Well now I'm having another issue onto of that
recently while driving I've been smelling tyranny
fluid and found out I've been leaking fluid
somewhere.  As I was checking my motor oil
smells like gas.  Now today I was headed home
and preceded to drive up a hill and it jumps
forward losses power and stalls on me with no
power. I threw it in N and restarted it with no
problem. Clicked it back into D and when to
proceed up the hill and I swear I was inching up it
with no power to the point that when my turbo
kicked in it seriously didn't help at all.  It stalled at
min.  5 times within a mile long hill..  I got back to
flat ground and she ran perfect. Please help me.
My family and I know nothing about VW cars.  Let
alone the fact I don't have $98 an hour for the
closest VW shop near me to go over, find and fix
my baby.

That sounds like a typical V.W. Story,Sounds like the transmission is failing.
