98 prelude clutch broken or transmission?

Asked by Vnnielee95 Oct 15, 2012 at 09:44 AM about the 1998 Honda Prelude 2 Dr STD Coupe

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Hi I have a 98 semi automatic prelude
but I drive it mostly in auto. When I
reach the gears for 1st and 2nd gear
the car jerks back. As soon as I stop,
it starts all over again. I replaced the
transmission fluid with Lucas no slip
and more trans fluid. Do you think it's
the 1st and 2nd gear clutch that's
broken or needa to be fixed? Or is it
the transmission starting to slip?

Honestly, it does sound like an issue with your transmission...my first thought is the synchronizer's between the 1st and 2nd gear clutch packs are wearing/worn out....im not to familiar with Automatic transmissions persay let alone "semi-automatic" transmissions...unfortunately, I think your problem may lie with the transmission, but those kind of transmissions use sensors to be able to tell when the car is suppposed to shift into the next gear...so it could be a sensor...my suggestion? Take it to your nearest Honda dealer and explain your problem and they should be about to find the cause and correct the problem.
