My honda civic lx 97 cuts off a lights and stop signs but cranks back up with no problem its a automatic,also when I press the gas the rpm goes up to like 4 and stays for a second then it finally sounds like it caught the shift and goes back down but does it all over again when having to accelerate its like has no get up and go power it takes it a minute.what could be my problem?

Sounds like transmission pre catastrophic failure. Better get the AT fluids drained and refilled at least three times before you let someone tell you "you need a new transmission" That would total this car!!
