Air conditioner works great but heater does not

Asked by Lawrence Nov 19, 2020 at 09:23 PM about the 2008 Hyundai Elantra GLS Sport FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My air conditioner works great but the heater does not.  No change in
temperature.  Air blows fine.  What part do I need to replace?  Is that easy to do
myself?  I own a 2008 Hundai Elantra.

Check your coolant level (low coolant can keep the heater core from getting hot). Check coolant flow to heater core, by squeezing the heater hoses when engine is running (wear gloves as they can get hot), you should feel some pressure in the hoses. Some vehicles have a solenoid that opens coolant flow to the heater core, check if you have one and it's ok. Finally is all else seems ok, check that your blend door isn't stuck open to the AC coil, this would prevent air from passing across heater core to be warmed up.
