Question type: Maintenance & Repair

2004 Subaru outback 2.5l. Engine overheated to
the top of red line. Now engine will start but rattles
pretty bad. No coolant leak or oil leak. Oil and
antifreeze still looks good. What issue's could the
overheating cause?

Might’ve broke a bearing or something internally in the engine when it overheated so ur running off a lil less power which will be bad after awhile, also not the temp gauge on the dash that shows you’re overheating, but the temperature sensor on the engine that sends the signal to the fan that blows to cool in front of the engine when you’re sitting in traffic for too long, if that doesn’t work it’ll slowly start overheating it won’t overheat as long as it has airflow, fluids and oil. Hope this helps I’m not a mechanic just lotso car troubles. (Also find a personal mechanic with experience where u can see the work he’s done that’ll help also to avoid any extra uneccesary repairs

All kinds of damage can occur when you overheat an aluminum engine. Check the oil level but your engine is probably toast.
