1996 Honda Accord poor idle and oil light

Asked by Kiraro Mar 05, 2019 at 09:10 AM about the 1996 Honda Accord LX

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

RPMs go below normal and oil light
comes on. The oil is topped and the
spark plugs are new so I don't know
what is happening, do I need a new IAC
or oil pump?

Is there a proper way to clean it? I assume I should stay from strong solvents that way degrade seals

So, I cleaned the IAC and that didn't fix the issue so I decided to look further. I ended up getting a vacuum and sucking everything inside the valve and the IAC ports, sucking inside the harness and connector port in IAC motor as well as I cleaned the EGR ports and passages and the car seems to have improved. It starts up easily and I accelerate after warming up and it smoothly goes back to proper idle instead of below. I also applied a bit of silicone spray in the right port of the IAC, there seems to be a screw looking thing there, I guess that's what the motor uses to open and close? A bit of lube seems to have helped.
